“Deer Valley… A district of excellence with opportunities for every student.”
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Greetings! We would like to welcome back our new students, current students, as well and parents, and families to Sierra Verde, S.T.E.M. Academy, an A+ School of Excellence for another school year . I am very excited about the coming school year and am committed to guiding all of my students to success. There are projects are based on problem solving, planning in my art class. Students will have chances to decide what kind of artworks they are going to make. Students are asked to come up with a visual plan indicates steps how they are going to complete their artworks. Then hands on working process are where they are going to practice their problem solving and inquiry skills. The process is more important than the final products.
All students at S.V. are expected to demonstrate an outstanding character, trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring, and citizenship. The classroom’s discipline policies are aligned with the four school wide rules:
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Safe
Have a learner’s attitude- YES!
I like to encourage positive behavior. Following are the consequences for students who do not show the appropriate behavior:
1. Verbal warning
2. Verbal warning
3. Detention in the art room
4. Detention with other teachers (on Wednesday)
I will be uploading students’ artworks periodically on the school website for reference. I also try to have students draw upon their knowledge of other subjects they are learning in creating their works.
For details, please check http://sierraverdeart.weebly.com/ or you can visit the school website at https://sierraverde.dvusd.org at à directoryà art teacher -à Visit my website-à students’ artworks. Some students artworks are also displayed on the bulletin board in the hallway located in the front office.
The final grade will take into account students’ participation in class, completion and performance in project assignments, and in-class participation. Every student will receive two grades:
1) Effort grade (20%) –
The effort grade reflects the level of participation in class as shown by the students’ showing up to class, doing the homework, and showing interest in the assignments.
In order to receive further feedback on long-term projects, it is important that students make progress toward the final goal. Therefore, students will receive 5 points for daily participation.
2) Grade for academic performance (80%) –
This represents the combined performance on projects done inside and outside of class. Grades for projects will be entered throughout the semester so students (and parents) can chart the progress.
Combined, both grades make up students’ total grade for this class.
I welcome any questions you may have. I have an open door policy, so during the semester, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to your support during this academic year. Together, we will provide the best education for Sierra Verde students! YES!
